No software installation tool with Ubuntu Unity 23.04?

Hello, I recently installed Ubuntu Unity 23.04 to a laptop that previously was running Windows 10 (but not very well).
No problems with installation and so on, but when I wanted to install some programs I did not find any software catalog tool like “Ubuntu Software” (gnome-software).
So I installed gnome-software. And also Flatpak and the Flatpak-Addon for gnome-software.

Was it correct to do so, or does Ubuntu Unity have another software catalog & installation tool which I did not see, because I might have tomatoes on my eyes?

No need for gnome-software. There’s already Synaptic package manager pre-installed with Ubuntu Unity 23.04. Just open the dash and search for “synaptic”.

$ dpkg -l synaptic

Yes indeed, that one exists too. :slight_smile: But I consider it unsuitable for end-user use and personally, I’m using either Ubuntu Software or the command line.

I find it tedious to install apps with Synaptic. For example, if I want to install GIMP: 110 search results for that keyword.
